If you walk down the streets of Bali this June, you will see the island transformed into a golden forest. Tall, curved bamboo poles called Penjor line every roadway, swaying in the breeze and decorated with intricate palm leaf weavings and the harvests of the land.

This is the season of Galungan and Kuningan—the most significant period in the Balinese calendar, celebrating the triumph of Dharma (Truth and Virtue) over Adharma (Chaos).

The Homecoming of the Ancestors

Galungan is a ten-day celebration that begins when the spirits of our ancestors descend from heaven to visit their former earthly homes. For the Balinese, it is a time of intense joy and connection.
